The library is pleased to announce that we will sponsor a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 28, as part of the Artisan Fair. The registration form should be submitted by April 12. Registration forms can be dropped off at the library or mailed to Helen Matthes Library, Get Bookin’ Family 5K Run and Walk, 100 E. Market Avenue, Effingham, IL 62401.

Proceeds from the run/walk will benefit the construction of the new library.

Special Family Rate available as well!

Sign up the whole family for one special rate for the Get Bookin’ 5K Run/Walk, to be held Saturday, April 28 at 9:00. If your family signs up prior to April 12, you’ll get to register either 2 adults and up to 3 children or 1 adult and up to 4 children for the rate of $60 (one t-shirt/family). After April 12 and on the day of the race, it will be $75 for a family (no t-shirt). We have a special registration form just for families, so be sure to use this form if you’d like to take part in this deal.

Introducing TumbleBooks and TumbleReadables, an online collection of eBooks for kids!
TumbleBooks are for K-6th grade and TumbleReadables are for 4th grade – High School.

The TumbleBook Library is a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books) with fiction, non-fiction and foreign language titles, Read-Alongs (chapter books with sentence highlighting and narration but no animation), TumbleTV which consists of pre-set playlists of a sequence of books, and Tumble Puzzles & Games.

TumbleReadables is a collection of online read-along titles in categories such as Early Readers, Chapter Books, Teen Fiction, Classics, and Drama/Poetry.

The Read-Alongs are great for emergent, struggling, and reluctant readers.  With a fun, stylish interface, Read-Alongs will also appeal to accomplished readers who are excited to follow along to the narration of their favorite books.  Use the Accelerated Reader information on the site to find your next book!

The drawings for the design of the proposed new library, located on the current site of the 5/3 Bank building have been released. After you’ve viewed the images, we’d appreciate your feedback so that we can ensure that this library will meet the needs of the community.
